The medical teams function as social outreach ministries to help bring people to Christ in Nicaragua and to help grow physically and spiritually healthy churches. The USA team members work alongside Nicaraguan team members in ministering to people from the churches and the surrounding communities. By conducting public health clinics at Wesleyan church sites, the medical teams provide the churches with opportunities for community outreach.
Five days of clinics were held at four different church sites in Managua, Masaya, Matagalpa, and Masatepe. Hundreds of people were treated each day with consults that included medication and health education. Nicaraguan church members assisted at each clinic by helping to organize and operate the clinics, entertaining children with balloons, and preparing a noon meal for clinic workers. At least one person prayed to receive Christ as a result of the medical team’s ministry.
The team left funds with the pastor of the Torre Fuerte church in Masaya to buy 40 more plastic chairs for church services. Twice a week, Pastor Maycol has been holding services in which every chair is full and other people are left standing.
Wisconsin folk can assist teams by donating eyeglasses, small toys, adult and children's toothbrushes, and funds for Bibles, Bible Story Cards, and medicine.
