Medical Team Ministry Report #17

USA Team Members: Kelly Bagley, Sandra Blumenberg, Tom Blumenberg, Kathy Dettle, Hannah Peterson, Nancy Sparks, Cindy Terry

Nicaraguan Team Members: Medical students & translators, Dr. Arauz, Loida Montenegro, missionaries Mike & Amy Knox

By setting up community health clinics at Nicaraguan church sites, the medical team provided community outreach opportunities for the Nicaraguan churches. The team members worked together in ministering to the church congregations and people from the surrounding communities. Hundreds of people were treated each day with health consults that included medication and health education materials. For many people over the years, the medical teams have been their main source of medical care and health education. Pastor Enrique Montenegro, Nicaragua Wesleyan District Superintendant, stated that because of the economy, the help given by the medical teams is needed now more than ever.

Five days of clinics were held at five different churches at Monte Horeb in Managua, Torre Fuerte in Masaya, Amigos del Rey in Tipitapa, Rosa de Saron in Los Laureles, and El Buen Samaritano in Masetepe. One clinic was held at the site of Dr. Arauz's future medical clinic. At least one person prayed to receive Christ during the team's ministry at Masetepe. Gospel tracts were given to teens and adults. Bible Story Cards, toothbrushes, small toys, and balloons were distributed to children.

Donation ideas for future teams include eyeglasses, toothbrushes, prenatal vitamins, and Spanish New Testaments or portions of the New Testament.

Dates for the next medical team are February 10-18, 2010.
